Historic Preservation Kitchen

This was as close to as possible to a preservation house. The clients worked hard to maintain the original flavor but also wanting to have all the comforts of a new up to date kitchen.
See here the combination of the "old" and the "new". We tried to recycle all we could into this project and restored as much as possible but then added modern ammenities where needed, melding the past and the present comfortably in the the whole project.

Every knook and cranny was used in the kitchen which means we also used the space under the staircase. Here we used small upper cabinets in each under stair space. We finished with some open storage for wine and some closed storage for other livations. There was also room for glasswear.

The farm sink was new but took the design back in time. The pot rack made access to the pots and pans very handy. Subway tile gave the kitchen a brick look but in a lighter color to lighten things up while using so much wood.

Much of this kitchen was restored to it's earlier feel, knotty wood in the ajoining room was restored, as much of the floor as possible was restored. We selected a cabinet that could have all the modern features but left the feel of time gone by.

An island with a drop down cutting area or a drop down bread kneeding area is a plus, this can also double for an area for kids to work in the kitchen and not need a stool to work on.
