The white kitchen was in dire need of being redone; it had (tacky) 1970’s almond Formica countertops and coordinating ancient appliances. Principal designer of Showcase Kitchens in Massapequa, turned the kitchen into a transitional (leaning toward contemporary with the glass pencil tile backsplash) showplace – now the proud center of the home. First off, the client wanted a more spacious kitchen. He took this 132 square foot kitchen’s dimensions to a whopping 530 square feet by opening up the room to the dining area and squaring it off into the back yard (the kitchen had an old style bay window).

This was a TOTAL gut renovation. Adding headers (support beams) was necessary as well as enlarging the existing sky light. A niche was created for the refrigerator making it seem like a built-in appliance. Plumbing was reconfigured; gas lines for the new cooktop were added as well as electrical upgraded to meet the needs of the latest appliances. The designer added a decorative tray ceiling with recessed lighting that helps separate the space from the greater kitchen.
