This 100 year old house in Manhasset had a layout as many older homes do, rooms with corridors leading to other rooms. The homeowners wanted a living environment that was more open with all spaces leading to the heart of the home, the kitchen. With doorways widened and hallways eliminated and walls moved, architect Kenneth Dowd created an open layout conducive to better flow for living and entertaining. John Starck of Showcase Kitchens worked closely with the homeowner, an avid cook, who was clear in her desire for a simple, functional and white kitchen [and adjoining butler’s pantry] that integrated well with the other rooms. Proper storage and durability for this much-used kitchen were as much a factor as were the decorative elements.
