An architect’s home for a young family of five in Lafayette, California, a composition of the home, a carport/studio and pool sit along the downhill slope of a 1-1/2 acre site surrounded by a gentle creek, mature oaks and the hills of a neighboring regional park. Inspired by the language of earlier modern West Coast architecture, the form of the Swatt Residence is quiet, restrained and modern. The open plan design suits the goals of family life and entertaining, while a strong relationship between interior and exterior spaces enhances a connection to the natural environment.
