Lake Cottage Chic

Every detail was taken into consideration to create this stunning new construction home.
My client’s request was to blend contemporay with a cottage style and to integrate treasured family vintage pieces into the decór . To create this personalized home my efforts to reimagine these vintage pieces and find creative ways to mash-up the old and new - to strike a stylized balance and pleasing design asthetic.

The stylized balance starts at the front door with a repurposed 1920’s leaded glass entry door from an old estate.

The backdrop was a neutral palette using shades of gray, warm taupe and white, accented with an occasional splash of indigo blue inspired by lake living. Flowing this palette from room-to-room made the open floor plan feel more cohesive. Enameled white built-ins and wood shiplap ceilings contrasted by gray walls and dark wood floors gave the home a crisp, updated classic feel. Natural textures of metal & glass, concrete, stainless steel, chrome, marble and crystal lighting blended together to create a cottage style look that's both vintage and up-to-date.

I chose lighting fixtures that created patterns that mimic the way the sun causes light to reflect off the lake. I wanted the furniture to impart a real sense of sophisticated warmth and style, without compromising function. I pulled together cottage contemporary mélange with mid-century modern and refinished carefully selected family vintage pieces. The home has an elegantly casual feel that’s eclectic, as if it has been assembled over a long period of life experiences.

The powder room I paired black & white birch grove wallpaper with a salvaged vintage sink. The dark gray tile on the floor was installed in a herringbone pattern; the same color was mimicked on the ceiling using paint for a chic, big impact look.

Serenity reigns in the second floor master suite, which includes private office/sitting room. Pristine gray walls, white tongue and groove ceiling with industrial metal & wood fans keep breezes moving on those warm summer nights. I designed the spa master bath to provide a calming oasis by using a blend of marble tile, concrete counter tops, chrome, crystal and a refurbished antique claw foot tub.
I encouraged the homeowner to add a gas fireplace to the screened in porch off the kitchen so they could stay warm on cool evenings and extend their outdoor summer days.
This project provided a wide palette of objects, surfaces, textures and room configurations to orchestrate. The result is a one-of-a-kind home that uniquely reflects the style and passion of the owners.
