Located in Lido Shores, a haven for modern design in Sarasota, this project included renovations and additions to a home initially built in 1959. With the client’s request for updating the home while also enhancing its presence on the street, this remodeling project focused on adding space that incorporated the natural surroundings. The home sits on a captivating water view, yet the main activity zones were originally placed away from this. In the redesign, public spaces such as the kitchen were not only placed by the water, but also pulled out to allow even more interaction with nature. Transparent elements, such as large windows, further lowered barriers between the home and the outdoors.

The redesign incorporated elements of volume and elongation in rooms to add a grand, sculpted feeling to the home. Ceiling heights varied to divide spaces by activity while the central axis incorporates a direct view of the water into the arrival sequence. This renovation doubled the size of the home, adding new spaces that redefined interaction within and around the home.
