This one-story, contemporary addition and partial renovation to a typical, two-story, traditional suburban home creates a backyard oasis for enjoying sunshine and breezes filtered by the surrounding wood. Inside, a greatly expanded and re-imagined Kitchen opens to the site through large expanses of glass and to a two-story Family Room brightened with new clerestory windows. Two lower bay spaces with sloped ceilings have been added at the Family Room's edges. One holds a fireplace and bookshelves; the other leads to a new rear deck. All connect to a new sun pavilion whose steep hip roof and cupola lend some fun to the whole composition.
