The clients wanted to use this mid-century farmhouse as a weekend home. I had already done a remodel and furnished their 1920’s home in Portland that is their main residence. Their list of wants included a new kitchen, a new master bath and new lighting throughout the home and the exterior living areas. The owners wanted comfortable furniture that fit in with the style of the house and could take lots of use, a pool table in the great room and several more intimate areas with fireplaces to relax in.

There was an unfortunate existing kitchen remodel with lowered ceilings that blocked the views and light that we demolished. The original laundry room was still intact so we will able to copy the original cabinets for the new kitchen and master bath. The owner owns an Italian restaurant and is a wonderful cook. It was important that the kitchen function very well and be able to comfortably handle their large family. We opened the kitchen ceiling and the wall into the great room to make the space open. During demo we discovered triangular windows that we incorporated into the design. The main features of the combined kitchen family room area are a large island with lots of seating and a bar and wine rack that frames the opening into the Great Room.
