West Hills Traditional
This project is a 1910 home owned by a young family in the West Hills of Portland, Oregon. The home had been remodeled several times by the current owners and many times by the owners before that. Although the clients liked the aesthetics of the work they had done, the house still didn’t work for them because the floor plan dead ended in the kitchen and there was no mudroom to deposit their rain coats, backpacks and boots. There was also no garage and no room to add one to the site, so they needed storage for bikes and other outdoor equipment.
My solution was to get rid of some of the shrubs crowding the driveway and add a mudroom/powder bath to the front of the house. It improved the front elevation and provided a new entrance and storage. Over the exterior storage space I added a playloft (accessed from inside) for the children that can be converted into a storage space at a later date.
Also included in the scope of work were new countertops & backsplashes in the main and lower level kitchens, a new banquette, and paint colors throughout the house. Additionally, we made significant changes to the windows and additions to improve the exterior elevation and bring more light into the home.
