With a growing family in a growing neighborhood, two young professionals couldn’t help but feel the pressure to grow their modest house situated on the outskirts of sprawling Los Angeles city proper. But the abode tucked away in the historic hillside community of Los Feliz was too charming to leave, and demolishing exterior walls seemed excessive. By opting for a strategy that emphasized reconfiguration rather than expansion, Laney LA was able to transform a small charming house into an high-functioning house with modern sensibilities. In keeping consistent with the client’s mid-century modern tastes, Laney LA not only added an office, a guest bedroom, and a powder room but also tailored the programming to perfectly fit the clients’ needs—all while leaving the roof and foundation untouched and adding a mere total of 7 square feet.
