Modern Swedish Apartment
Simplicity was the watchword for the project with an emphasis on quality and craftsmanship. The use of various types of wood was instrumental to the design. The walnut “window surrounds” help frame the view of Central Park, providing a sense of protection and security. The sliding walnut partitions provide the flexibility that was a key consideration for the layout of the living room, dining room and the study/ guest room. The design consciously maintained the historic quality of these rooms by keeping the existing plaster ceiling mouldings and beams and installing herringbone cherry wood flooring. The paint color scheme of the main rooms was kept soothing to compliment the artwork. The hallway from the entry leading to the bedrooms was treated as an “event” with its smooth, floating wood ceiling that acts as a light fixture and conceals the central air conditioning ductwork. The master bedroom has a quiet elegance and serenity to it with its seductive use of pearwood and cleanly detailed custom bed. Jerusalem stone was used throughout the richly detailed master bath with its custom light fixture around the mirror and its luxurious steam shower. This apartment is a testament to the notion that classic modern design can offer all the warmth and comfort a young family could want.
