Montecito Hideaway

A completely new landscape design was what this over-grown and neglected estate needed. The many assets included Giant Oaks, Olives, Pepper trees, beautiful palms, the lovely setting and unsuspected ocean view.

One of our favorite areas was the garden and patio on the north side that was transformed into a Yoga area. The beautiful tower was hidden by overgrowth making that side of the house unusable. As you can see, it is now open and light and exotic.

The front courtyard was reshaped, natural stone was laid along with boulders and stone steps. The existing fountain was re-fashioned and the entire area was brought to life with plantings of Olives, Thyme, Rosemary, Arbutus and other drought-tolerant plants. One landscape design idea was to use greenery atop the wall to conceal the parking area from the front patio.

Meandering Flagstone pathways added a sense of adventure and discovery.
Hard to imagine, but the owners didn’t know they had an expansive view of the Pacific. By removing an enormous hedge along the south side, a fabulous panorama was revealed! We capitalized on this new discovery and used “borrowed” views that included using nearby tile roofs to complete the “look”.

The addition of colorful, drought tolerant plants along the borders not only creates year-round interest and seasonal change but attracts birds of every sort to frolic in this private Montecito hide-away.
