The typical Vermont pond found at so many rural homesteads became a highly integrated natural pool at this residence in Stowe, Vermont. The house is situated at the top of the hillside with impressive views to the west of Mount Mansfield. The hillside below the house became the site for the natural pool with its integrated constructed wetland filter, upper pool, and multi-level waterfall. Stone walls, boulders, stairs, and pathways were carefully placed between the home and pool to create an enjoyable experience stepping down the hillside to the pool. What used to be an expansive sloping lawn has become an impressive foreground to the unbeatable view.
