This kitchen needed not only a refresh, but a complete rethink! Its 18 x 11 footprint felt small, since almost half the room was devoted to a breakfast area and the "work triangle" (fridge, stove, sink) was tightly compressed into a third of the space. The stove was located directly next to the entrance of the adjoining dining room, which was not only unattractive and inconvenient, but also unsafe! The first priority of the renovation was to relocate the stove so that it was a focal point, not an afterthought, with ample counter space on either side.
We kept the client's restaurant quality gas range and refrigerator, and her relatively new hardwood flooring required only minor repairs to work with the new layout. The existing location of the sink below the window was also maintained. These elements resulted in major cost savings to the homeowner.
Cabinets and hardware are simple, but its rich navy colour, warm metal, and walnut accents add plenty of pizzazz!
