"New" Kitchen With Old Character | Kitchen Remodel
This 1890's home was full of unique character and included a Kitchen with a sunken floor with windows to the floor as well. The existing layout was not working for the growing family as it felt cramped and dysfunctional. The clients wanted to keep their existing maple cabinets on the perimeter if possible. Che Bella Interiors designers blew them away with a design that allowed them to keep all of their existing cabinets and also meet all of their design requirements and then some!
Functional design details included:
- Raising sunken floor, decreasing window size to allow for more cabinetry (keeping one window lower for the family dog)
- A new space plan that took the clients by surprise - adding incredible function to a very tiny Kitchen
- Creating built-in desk (per request) and creating a custom wrap around peninsula for additional counter space. A bonus included reworking a tiled plant window to create seating at the peninsula
- New painted raised panel cabinets with design style of the original
- Stretching budget by incorporating a blend of hand-made tile with manufactured
- Un-waxed Soapstone countertops to allow the kitchen to feel aged and not "too new" compared to the rest of the home
- Custom window design for the family dog to feel at home. His floor to ceiling windows were very important to him in the past
- We maximized the storage space by creating a buit-in dining hutch in a funky set back on the dining wall
