Portland Residence
This project presented a host of challenges, mostly due to the huge 4.8 acre site containing heavy clay and abundant rocks left behind by the ancient Willamette river basin. It was the customers' desire to completely landscape close to 3 acres of this property while their new 7000 square foot home was being built. Some of the key features designed and built into this virtual quarry were a gigantic entry water feature flowing through 15' of elevation change, a circular paver driveway, professional putting green with elevated tee boxes, a swimming pool and over 17,000 square feet of fine turf. The extremely poor soil conditions required tremendous efforts in excavation, removal and replacement of the existing earth with thousands of cubic yards of fertile imported topsoil. Trenching for the 36-zone sprinkler system and 1,500 lineal feet of drainage system seemed to generate a continuous supply of rock. Plantings ranging from small ground covers to large trees numbered well into the thousands. Given the level of difficulty the natural site conditions presented and the detail of features desired by the customer, this is considered one of our proudest achievements to date.
