Premier Downtown Condo

There are certain elements in a space that regardless of its current state of dilapidation inevitably captivate one's interest and are impossible to fake regardless of how skilled the designer or sizable the renovation budget.
One is energy of the space and the second are bare bones that compose that space. Both of these have been bluntly obvious in this forgotten penthouse apartment nestled in the very downtown center, which is one of the main reasons two of our keen eyed agents snatched this gem and enlisted us to restore some of it's previous charm, but infused with up to date modern vibe. The result was eclectic mix of styles and furnishing that withstands the test of time. Architectural details of this Tudor inspired historical building in form of numerous arched openings, elaborate moldings, and special attention to the way natural light was treated in the space (hence numerous windows and old fashioned sun-room) have provided us with the most perfect canvas which we have further enhanced by adding even more architectural moldings by adding previously non existing ceiling medallions and refinishing the existing architectural elements with a color palette inspired by old world European interiors.

Among challenging aspect of the project was notorious lack of storage which is characteristic for buildings from this period, which was the reason we utilized every nook and cranny for storage and even custom created some pieces that contain additional unconventional storage methods (dining bench, floating shelving aka heater cover).
Size of the space was also somewhat challenging particularly in areas that were designed for a specific function (like dining room) where we designed custom built bench specifically fitted to that space. And there are always modern amenities like functioning gas fireplace and washer & dryer that were never intended to reside in the original building, so we resorted to compact stackable pieces (in European size-bien sur) to satisfy the needs of modern society. As this apartment has an amazing views of tree lined streets and the exterior is mostly covered in Ivy, we had to do a lot of interior paint color correcting as the light was casting a lot of blueish and greenish hues altering overall color palette of the space.
Furthermore, we had to be very sensible of the budget considering that this was an investment property after all and numbers needed to make sense in the end.

While we paid particular attention to little details like cabinetry and door hardware, light switches and tones of the refinished wood as we wanted to stay true to the original character of the building, we introduced much needed modern vibe through by designing a very modern fireplace and choosing furniture pieces, art and statement lighting that is very modern in nature, to proliferate the styles and to create layers which suggest that a space had evolved over time (even though the remodel was completely done in less than four five months).
