This coffee table was the result of a few design sessions with the client. They wanted something truly unique that would both spur conversation and last a long time.

The unique nature of the piece is meant to provoke and inspire, by pairing odd ratios and unexpected positioning, with fine craftsmanship and a high level of attention to detail. The construction features wedge tenons in every joint, a few of which are on display. A wedge tenon spreads the joint during glue-up, creating one of the tightest grips in woodworking. The hidden joints also have wedges, that are trimmed precisely to slide into place during assembly, ultimately making disassembly a near impossible task.

The table is made entirely from Purpleheart, a hardwood from the rain forest region, with natural rot-resistance and extreme durability. The colouring is completely natural, and ensures the woods widespread usage, typically in an accenting role. But in this case, the client wanted to push the irregularity over the top, and I think we did just that!
