The Cousin Bar Cart
The Cousin Bar Cart was originally designed to be a silent auction prize, at a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis, a disease diagnosed to my cousin. The creative freedom and personal desire to create a stunning piece to raise money for my cousin, allowed the design to flourish. I have since made another cart for a new client, who wanted the same design.
I loved the idea of a wooden wheel set that sits flush with the rails of the piece, and has a pseudo "wheel well" built into the frame. It feels like it truly belongs there, and wasn't a metal after thought. The rest of the piece followed suit, as I brought the joinery from the axle to the towel rack. The piece of Cherry that made the middle, front rail, has a stripe of sapwood along the top which is a near-perfect match to Canadian Maple, so I decided it would be a perfect species to make the top butcher block and wheels from.
This was truly a design-build process, and my creative freedom allowed me to explore the piece starting from the wheel and ending with the butcher block. I love to work with clients on a process like this, and look forward to all opportunities to do so.
