A desire to stay in an established neighborhood prompted the addition to this colonial style house. Faced with a small, disconnected kitchen on the first floor and outdated bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor, a family of four sought to add living space that would be in harmony with the character and style of the original house. On the exterior, a new small porch at the mud room entry along with a new back porch off of the family room make a graceful transition to the back yard. On the first floor, a new kitchen, breakfast room, and family room are visually open to one another and provide a comfortable, light-filled space for the daily activities of a busy family. Painted white cabinets and bead board wainscoting in combination with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops maintain the traditional look of the house while offering modern conveniences in the kitchen. On the second floor, a new master suite with a vaulted ceiling was added above the new family room.
