Santa Monica Canyon Residence
The client’s desire for the landscape of this house was to create an austere, modern atmosphere, which we accomplished by using a minimal palate and clean linear elements. The amphitheater in the front courtyard is part of a highly composed entry sequence that relates to the geometry of the house and its skylight. Descending from street level, the perspective views of the house are enhanced by the calculated narrative of the pathway. Layers of greens and grey create the color palate, while stepping stones of varying sizes work with the geometry of the house and amphitheater to create the formal language for, and to define the exterior spaces.
