They were travelers and explorers, a family who wanted to spend time in the great outdoors without being eaten alive by mosquitos. Our solution – a screened-in porch with lots of natural light and nods to her Asian roots.
The biggest challenges were to follow the lines of an existing addition and work with the backyard tree, so we carefully hand-dug a test pit to ensure the footer for the porch wouldn’t damage any roots and mirrored the existing roof’s slant in the angle of the butterfly roof. We added Asian-inspired details in the railings and doors to give the space an international feel that fits their adventurous lives.
