Designed for a general contractor and his family, this project completely transformed a small ranch house, adding a kitchen wing and a second story and opening up existing spaces to light and natural ventilation. Rooflines of the addition were configured to maximize solar orientation for a future photovoltaic system. A concrete topping slab was added throughout, helping cool the house in summer through it’s thermal mass, and heating in winter with radiant hot water.
