Serene and Simple Bath

This small bath of 35 square feet with a 7 foot tall ceiling and no chance for natural light was asking for an update. The bath was dark despite all white tile and paint, lacked storage, had a 2 x 4 lay-in ceiling concealing various mechanicals and a 24 inch deep vanity that consumed precious floor space. For the update the owner requested a soothing, tranquil oasis that would welcome her every morning.

To create a sense of calm details were kept simple and the space was “de-cluttered”. Drawers are opened without pulls from a lip below and the tall cabinet operates with a touch latch. Lights within the mirror are completely flush with the glass. The ceiling above is finished with spaced white painted boards and hide the vent fan behind them.

To address the lack of storage the vanity was designed with drawers and a tall storage cabinet anchoring one end. To gain space in the bath counter depth was reduced and to conserve countertop surface area a petite round sink was chosen. The vanity is only 9 inches tall and floats above the floor causing the room to feel larger. Lighting below the vanity highlights the floor and further brightens the the bath. The floor itself is heated and finished with stone pebbles providing comfort under foot.
