Woodland

This 1960’s era split-level home came with three delightfully wooded acres and an awkward floor plan. Our clients loved their close-to-the-city, country-like surroundings and beautiful outdoor views, but the 60’s style interiors had to go. They lived with a floor plan that just didn’t work: a master bedroom door opening to the foyer, an entry visitors couldn’t find, and there was no powder room for their guests. The rooms were dark and their kitchen sorely needed an update. In short, this was far from the kind of bright, open, warm and comfortable home they longed to have and enjoy with friends and family.

Taking cues from the existing Craftsman-like ceiling in the living and dinning rooms the transformation began. The remodeling added only about 200 square feet, relocating the entry with a front porch to welcome visitors. Removing walls opened up a pointless hallway providing additional space for the kitchen and master bedroom and yielding an effortless floor plan that performs equally well whether hosting a big dinner party or relaxing with the family. A built -in nook in the kitchen features a table which adjusts to coffee table height for guests when entertaining allowing the cook to remain in the conversational mix.

With new windows providing lots of light and focused views, an interior filled with warm, natural finishes, plenty of custom crafted built-ins, and a kitchen a cook would die for, this well thought out redo is everything the owners dreamed of.
