OCTOBER 5 Fine Home Builders

Southwest Adobe - Long Beach, California

This adobe-style home was built in 1931 by a family from Albuquerque, and remained with the same family for 70 years, until it was purchased by its current owner in 1999. Drawn to its character, the new owner was willing to deal with the home’s idiosyncrasies. However, after 15 years, he wanted change. The living room was dark with a low ceiling, and peeler logs that added a tremendous visual weight, making the ceiling appear even lower. The barely functional dark kitchen was closed off from other rooms, and small in comparison to today’s standards.
