Spa Bathroom
This project won ASID 2023 1st Place Best Bathroom and 1st Place Best Before and After Bathroom
Modernizing a small primary bath in a grande old manse posed many challenges, especially when our client expressed her desire for a luxury flotation tub she experienced on a recent trip. Finding the room to accommodate the 84” tub within the utilitarian 75 ft² space proved to be impossible. We suggested that by annexing an adjoining guest room a spa-like environment could be created to truly showcase the luxury tub. The space naturally evolved into a daily use primary Shower Room with vanity and commode room while the other area became the Spa Bath sanctuary. Reprising the black and gold color palette, floor and wall tile, and sconces tied together the two distinct spaces.
We envisioned the Spa Bath as an immersive theater for self reflection and rejuvenation which features a bespoke spun glass oval pendent above the tub with a backdrop of gold-veined while marble glass panels framed with bold black painted millwork and illumined by recessed and sconce fixtures. The room also features a floating granite shelf with vessel sink, privacy glass door and panel and chaise lounge in leopard epinglé fabric.
The Shower Room could now breathe with a spacious glass shower enclosing a sculptural free standing shower column and double bowl sink over a suspended vanity. The guest room closet transformed into a cheetah clad commode room. Shou Sugi Ban effect porcelain wall tile with gold accents contrasts with large format mottled gold glass tiled walls. Benches are in honed black Granite.
