Located on farmland in southern Michigan, this new house distills archetypal farmhouse forms and details. To maximize in the full use of its site, the house is located at the edge of the property. Facing south towards the sun and prevailing breezes, the main spaces enjoy wide views over the landscape, a restored prairie bordered by woods and a river in the distance. A pool house and pool rest in foreground grasses.

This house finds common ground between the traditional and the modern. Two distinct gable structures are an abstraction of the more typical farmhouse “T” plan. A minimally detailed pergola to the south refers to its earlier antecedent, the porch.
