Traditional Home Makeover

This home in Miami Shores was desperate for some updates and our client had a very specific vision for what the final look would be. The old kitchen was transformed from a dark, enclosed u-shape plan by removing the wall adjacent to the family room and adding an island. The removal of the wall provided an infusion of sunlight that streams through the bay windows in the family room. We achieved some classic traditional details in the kitchen through the use of inset cabinetry, arched valance toe kicks at the sink, island and buffet unit, as well as prominent crown molding details. The walnut top on the island along with carrara marble tops support the classic styling as well. A special buffet piece adjacent to the dining room provides ample storage for serving pieces. The bead board finished ceiling and throwback light fixtures all add to the traditional styling. Hardwood flooring throughout the home was refinished and the new wood flooring in the kitchen is blended seamlessly, making the renovation almost feel original. The guest bath is outfitted for a princess. Again, classic details reign supreme with a white octagon and grey dot floor, furniture quality gray vanity with inset doors, white subway tiles with contrasting grout, bright white fixtures and polished nickel faucets. The medicine cabinet is built-in with added molding. The pink striped paint was completed by the homeowner. In the master bath, gaining storage was a priority, so we opted to keep a single sink with carrara marble and inset oak cabinetry. The flooring kept with traditional styling, utilizing a white on white octagon and dot with a brass inlay that spans the perimeter of the room. Glossy gray subway tiles in the shower and polished nickel faucets continue the classic detailing. We also added wood panel wainscott to the room, including a beautiful detail surrounding the recessed medicine cabinet and wall sconces above the vanity.
