Transitional Home Remodel
Kitchen:
The homeowners had a few goals they wanted to accomplish which posed some design challenges. They wanted to gain more storage space, add more appliances and seat more people comfortably at the kitchen table and the island without bumping out of the existing space or taking space from an adjoining room. In the existing kitchen, there were areas of brick detail that became wasted space. There was also a built in buffet and hutch that was more of a clutter “catch-all” than useful space.
To solve the storage and work space issue, we relocated the door separating the kitchen and dining room a few feet to gain more cabinet and counter space in the kitchen. We also added more functional storage to the enlarged island. The built-in hutch was removed in order to fit a larger breakfast table and free standing armoire. Lighting added above and below the wall cabinets as well as larger windows in the breakfast nook brightened the space to feel larger and more welcoming.
Bathroom:
The existing Master Bath was too small for the homeowners. Their goals were to have a larger, roll-in shower, a private water closet, a bigger tub, increase the vanity storage, create a seated make-up area and have two walk-in closets that would hold more of their things. To meet these needs, we bumped the Master Bedroom out into the back yard and reworked the existing space which allowed us to enlarge the Master Bathroom. We also removed a wall that separated the existing toilet, shower and tub from the vanity areas. An open floor plan made the space feel larger.
Sunroom and Patio:
The homeowners were interested in a room which would provide a transition between the interior of their home and their back patio with a pool. We removed a tree which was in the way & built a screened room with recessed lighting, wall-to-wall windows, and a dramatic stained beadboard ceiling.
This space is also where the homeowners do their outdoor cooking, so we installed a vent hood & ceiling fans so they could grill in comfort without getting smoked out.
