Treasured Transitional Kitchen / Bellevue, WA
This Bridal Trails family home was in much need of an update. Our focus with this project was to completely update the common areas of the home from the front entry, through the family room, kitchen & dining. The kitchen was completely closed off from the rest of the house in a very narrow and not very functional galley with a dining room off to the side boxed in with glass block.
We took the space down to studs to correct for very irregular drywall, aesbestos abatement plus a much needed upgrade in insulation.
The new kitchen is now completely open to the family room to allow entertaining and a feeling of inclusiveness for the cook. The kitchen got a bit wider by stealing a bit of space from the sunken living room and cooking was retained on the islance with a flush mount Bosch exhaust hood in the ceiling. The island has lots of storage and the back side is extra tall to account for the sunken space and allows for a row of barstools.
The end of the kitchen had previously been an eating nook with a large slider to the exterior. We took liberty with this space opting for a single swing door and incorporating cabinets to create a pantry and a baking station (imagine lots of pies resting here in the holiday season).
The cabinets are light and bright and the subtle blue tile make the space welcoming. An added touch was to replace the kitchen window with a new one only slighty taller to give a feeling of more space. The extra 6” makes a huge difference.
The end result is a kitchen that is perfect for entertaining and as a bonus we are told that the teenagers now enjoy hanging out with Mom in the kitchen at the new island.
