The empty nesters behind this Northwest Calgary renovation needed a modernized space that catered to their eco-conscious lifestyle. The vision was to create a clean contemporary space with natural materials for a European-inspired spa experience. Keeping in line with this couples' commitment to a low environmental impact, a custom clothes drying rack was installed to eliminate the need for a dryer. An energy-efficient washing machine in the walk-in closet means that clothes go right from the wash cycle to air drying, perfect for the clients' European sensibilities! During construction, exterior walls were built out and spray foam insulated to a 10" depth for a value of R30. The ceiling was dropped, old insulation removed and new insulation was blown in for a value of R50. A desire for efficiency didn't keep us from pulling out all the luxury stops of a spa experience - timer activated in-heat flooring and a heated towel rack keep this cool space warm to the touch.
