This addition and interior renovation’s design challenge was to reveal a new composition meeting functional needs for more space while achieving a degree of change suggesting the finished house had always been there. Complete with a new kitchen, mudroom, family room and master suite on one side, and a new Jack and Jill bath and Study on the other, 3 massing elements organize new rooms around the existing structure while also defining distinct outdoor spaces. These include a covered front porch, master bedroom balcony, and a patio complete with an entry space to a new mudroom and seating area next to an outdoor fireplace. With their own design background, our client was a close collaborator. Working together enriched the design process and imbued the project’s transformation with its own unique character.
