The clients for this project liked their 1960’s home but needed more space for play and work. The modern thee-story tower structure overlooks the Baton Creek Greenbelt. The addition gives a contemporary twist bringing the old and the new together in the renovated home. Shifting angles and bright sunlight were key design elements. . The team used a network of exposed framing and digitally-fabricated work surfaces, benches, shelves and railings to stitch together the program that emerged from the design. While the ranch house stretches one low story across the lot, the slender, playful addition reaches up, one-room wide to the panoramic greenbelt view. It takes its scale, positioning, and massing from the original house even while its envelope flexes from level to level, nesting the spaces into the surrounding trees and creating carefully framed views.
