Leveraging the mental and physical benefits found through an immersion in the natural world-- this sauna becomes a place to warm the body and heal the mind. A soft tone Alder interior and Cedar exterior allow the structure to speak independently in its landscape without overpowering the already present beauty of the surrounding woods.

​Inspired by traditional Japanese tea houses, the form is accentuated through timber joinery and strong datum lines, matching the dominant vertical presence of the trees that encircle the structure. To naturally illuminate the interior in the evening, a salt light was placed in the sauna to bathe the alder in a glowing orange warmth.
