When this avid gardner needed to replace a timber retaining wall along the curb, she asked designer Mary Kirk Menefee of Merrifield Garden Center to create something with greater interest, dimension and room for planting. The answer was to do away with a formal wall and use large boulders instead. The result is a unique garden that fits in with the rest of the property and just happens to hold the slope.
