A Transitional Style Theater Around a Client's Beloved Art
A piece of art provided the inspiration for this Transitional style theater. One of the homeowners’ favorite pieces had previously been hung in a guest room, where few people could enjoy its beauty. Featuring a peacock theme, the multi-paneled artwork provided a jewel-toned color palette that would tie together everything in the theater. Gramophone made sure to showcase the art in a way that neither the homeowners nor any guest would ever forget!
Custom design features include an enormous awe-inspiring acoustic panel that was silk screened with a close up image of a peacock feather, and faux finishes on the ceiling and the cowl of the Meridian front speaker. The Lutron lighting does a great job of highlighting the lush colors and peacock-inspired upholstery throughout the theater.
Other than showcasing the homeowners’ beautiful art piece, another design goal was to have the space possess the A/V functions of a dedicated theater but feel more like a family room. The design team chose the perfect furniture and accessories to accomplish that goal, as well as utilizing the curtains at the front of the room to camouflage the door to the equipment closet.
Having taken care of the design side, the homeowners were just as eager to make their “family room” sound fantastic for movie time. The homeowners had previously struggled to pick up dialog while watching movies at home, so the Gramophone team was determined to help them find the perfect high-performance speakers for their theater. After many auditions with very critical ears, the clients decided on a Meridian speaker package that gave them the clarity they needed to enhance their movie experience. The package included DSP3200 bookshelf speakers with stands, DSP420 active power in-wall speakers, a DSP5200HC active center speaker, and a DSW-B active subwoofer.
To ensure an equally impressive picture quality would accompany the speakers, an Epson Powerlight Pro Cinema projector was used, featuring best in class brightness in 2D and 3D. Included with the projector are 2 pairs of fully adjustable RF 3D glasses for up to 40 hours of 3D movie adventures on the Stewart Filmscreen 110” Firehawk G3 screen.
