Baltimore Ravens Fan Haven Basement
These homeowners wanted to show the love for their hometown football team: the Baltimore Ravens. This industrial style basement was split into a 14 ft x 35 ft theater with a wet bar, 2 game rooms, a teenager’s bedroom with attached bathroom and a workout area. In the future, some space may also be used for business purposes.
Purple and black team colors were incorporated everywhere except the teenager’s bedroom. The entire basement is tied together with numerous industrial elements such as the framed Ravens football jersey, custom exposed brick facades, light fixtures, shelving and even the shower curtain in the bathroom.
One design challenge was being sensitive to the needs of a hearing-disabled homeowner, which was addressed by ensuring that closed captioning accompanies anything displayed in the theater. With an Epson PC6010 Powerlite Pro projector that has been THX certified, it goes without saying that the theater display has excellent color.
Existing load-bearing beams and columns needed to be worked around when the Gramophone design team went to lay out the space. One clever solution to maximize limited space was to utilize a Leon Horizon Series speaker bar that was custom made to the exact width of the Stewart 100” Firehawk G3 screen so that it could fit directly below. Designed for small to medium-sized rooms, the speaker bar features 4” woofers and 1” cloth dome tweeters for excellent sound quality. The compact B&W CWM7.5 rear surround speakers were positioned behind acoustical paneling on the wall, also saving floor space. Lastly, the use of Salamander’s modular JumpSeat ottomans proved to be an effective space saver.
Easy, streamlined control of audio, video, and Lutron RA2 lighting in the basement is accomplished using a Savant app for the owners’ iPad.
