This backyard transformation began in 2015 with the homeowner's extension of an existing elevated patio with a covered deck/pavilion for a hot tub. In early 2016, a new lower patio/terrace of exposed aggregate concrete was added. The transformation continued with installation of a dry creek bed, chipped slate pathways for access from around the hot tub pavillion, and wall boulder edging to define the new lawn area, perimeter landscape beds, and a "play area". The multi-function play area of chipped slate was created in a part of the yard with deep shade and tree roots that would prevent growing grass, and is intended for a hammock or firepit and additional seating. The chipped slate is easy to walk on and maintain, pet-friendly, and provides good drainage.

Grading, drainage, boulder edging, dry creekbed, chipped slate and Zorro Zoysia sod installed by RJM Landscape Works. The landscape planting plan will be implemented in Fall 2016.
