Backyard Poolscape/Viewing Area
This backyard poolscape enhancement project actually began in 2013, with removal of a fenceline row of overgrown Leyland Cypress, replacement with some mid-size, low-maintenance evergreen shrubs, and construction of the garden walk of stone slab steps. A loose-laid flagstone landing with boulder edges, boxwoods and creeping groundcovers completed the informal walkway from the pool deck to the rear fence gate and provides easy access to the homeowner's large vegetable garden space (not shown in photo). Large river boulders were set in place as informal steps for access from the pool deck to the upper terrace behind the pool for maintenance and to facilitate a drainage solution.
In 2014, the homeowner wanted to enhance the dated overgrown landscape on the slope above the existing stack stone wall behind the pool, and add an informal flagstone seating area overlooking the pool and rear of the house. Wall boulders were used to retain the slope for the new patio space. The homeowner planted creeping groundcovers between the stones and creeping rosemary under the existing Drift roses, and added a couple of red Adirondack chairs and a portable firepit.
