Barb & Frank's Kitchen Renovation

This Baltimore County couple have a very attractive property behind their home… and they had almost no view of it from the small single window of their existing kitchen.

This kitchen remodel and addition bumped out the rear of the home just a bit and added a beautiful new breakfast room with glass on three sides to take in the light and the view. A new mudroom serves as a ‘drop-off’ area for those entering the home, keeping the kitchen island from becoming a collector of clutter.

The oversized windows that let the view into the kitchen meant less room for wall cabinets, but the addition of a walk-in pantry/closet more than compensates for the lost storage space. Vaulting the ceiling in the family room allowed the windows there to run to the old ceiling height of 8 feet, again creating a more spacious feeling. The beams on the kitchen ceiling set it off as a separate space from the adjoining family room.
