We flipped the kitchen 180 degrees and removed the wall between the Kitchen and the Dining Room. Obviously this made the island the focal point of the Great Room. In addition the Dining Room and Family Room areas were raised one step to the level of the Kitchen. Critical also was the addition of a clearstory window that keeps the Kitchen light and airy.
