Color Field Landscape is a Bethesda, Maryland garden designed for Homeowners who are musicians with a refined appreciation for fine art, particularly color field paintings. Conceptually, the garden is ordered in response to a circular datum line set by the architect when they created two contemporary additions (one in the front and one in the back) to an otherwise traditional house. Garden spaces are separated by rings and rays, similar to a cross section of a tree. The landscape is an accompaniment to the Homeowner’s residence, reflecting their musical ears and their passion for fine art. When experienced outside, the Homeowners are immersed in color, sound and texture. From within the home, the garden flattened into a painterly vista.
