Bolsover Residence | Eclectic

Kyle restored this 1940s residence designed by noted Houston architect Harvin C. Moore by responding to the proportion of its rooms and its formal discipline. More a reclamation than a restoration, Kyle returned the house closer to its original design by removing a utility room that had been added later and gutting and stripping the structure to its essential form.

Not wanting the design to be simply restoricist, Kyle used the original plan as the springboard for the new design, which opened some rooms and added new elements, including curved ceilings, a metal roof and wood shingle siding. Interiors are brightened through the use of bold colors. Avoiding all sheet rock, Kyle installed exterior siding vertically on interior walls, creating a warm textural dimension to the open spaces. Two lush courtyards and a circle mound of grass behind the house define additional secluded outdoor living spaces.
