The clients’ love of cooking and entertaining and their abiding affection for the work of Louisiana architect A. Hays Town created the framework for this home. Town’s signature homes incorporated the multitude of influences present in Louisiana culture, allowing Acadian, Spanish and plantation architectural elements to coexist harmoniously in this unique and cherished southern style. Kyle embraced this aesthetic by incorporating antique brick, shuttered windows, pitched roofs and long covered porches and an intimate courtyard with a square pool into the design. Although quite large, the house does not overwhelm because of the variety of scales Kyle employed in the design. Varying the sizes and heights of spaces allows the house to unfold as one moves through it and gives one the sense of being among elements rather that engulfed in an oversized building. Interiors are simple and refined, complementing the backdrop for the owners’ antique furnishings. The great room’s brick fireplace rises to a wood paneled ceiling awash with natural light from clerestory windows. Doors open to a brick patio in the courtyard, reinforcing the connection to this outdoor room and encouraging the easy flow between indoor and outdoor living.
