Broad Cove

Along the coast of Maine, a growing family of five dreamt of transforming this basic 60’s ranch-style into their dream home. Structural changes and architecture were addressed by Whitten Architects, of Portland, Maine, which laid the foundation for bringing it into the 21st century. The major architectural changes include the addition of a second floor Master Suite, as well as the absorption of an existing screened porch into the home. Additionally, almost all of the interior partitions in the heart of the home were removed to create an open concept living space.
Once the structural issues were solved, Knickerbocker Group was recruited for the interior finish selection and construction of the project. With their assistance, the home’s interior became an eclectic blend of modern and antique, infused with playful pops of color which merged the energy of the family with the surrounding landscape. The kitchen features a custom bar with seating for 10, along with a walk-in pantry uniquely disguised to fuse with the adjacent cabinetry. The star feature of the master bathroom is a Japanese soaking tub seamlessly integrated into the generously sized walk-in shower. Other memorable design elements of the home include the distinctive ceiling pattern in the family room, the parged center chimney fireplace, and a custom banquette dining area.
