Calacatta Island

The perfect setting for entertaining on a grand scale, this kitchen is anything but ordinary. Upon arriving through a minimally detailed foyer, guests encounter an astonishing conversation piece: a 13 foot wide block of calacatta marble. Although monolithic in appearance, this marble is simply a meticulous veneer, concealing valuable storage space within. After purchasing their home in Forest Hills, D.C., the owners sought to convert a small kitchen and dining room into a modern and open space for social gathering. The catch: this entertaining space had to cleverly double as a functional catering kitchen. While guests enjoy hors d'oeuvres on one side, a catering team is hard at work at the other, where a commercial range, 48” stainless fridge, 2 dishwashers, and multiple wall ovens are found. A custom stainless steel fascia wraps and conceals ventilation and lighting above the range while a recessed linear light slot provides adjustable lighting for any task at hand.
