Catch & Release

Located on 172 rural acres in Bluemont, Virginia, the site is divided between forest and meadow. The new home is on 18 acres at the north end of the site. Central to the design, the house has open views to surrounding meadow, while the large living room has expansive views of the new pond .The east wing of the house contains the kitchen, dining room, and screened porch, while the west wing contains the master bedroom suite. Three children’s rooms and an office/exercise area are above.

As a weekend and vacation home that does not use external power when it is not occupied, numerous sustainable strategies were employed including a geothermal heating and cooling system, expansive overhangs, LED lighting, a photovoltaic panel grid with net metering, a solar pool heater, and a solar chimney.
