The Heights House

This house, which fronts 16th Street NW at the corner of Madison Street NW, is a large, traditional, four-square dating back to 1916. The homeowners had long outgrown their existing kitchen, which was small and dark. Disconnected from the rest of the house, Cunningham | Quill sought to proportionately scale the kitchen to the remainder of the house to better suit the needs of the modern family.

By recapturing the space of a drafty existing mudroom and rearranging rooms to accomdate the program and needs of the clients, CQA was able to create a much larger space for the kitchen. In doing so, a brighter space was created, including an eat-in breakfast nook. A modest addition that reconfigures a better use of existing spaces completes the renovation to the first floor.

The renovation also included converting and finishing the basement to a Recreation Room for the kids to play.
