The step-down living room had the 1980’s vaulted ceiling, walled off stairway and railing. By lowering the walls around the stairway and removing the unneeded railing, it opened up the room. We made the vault into a double-tray ceiling with rope lighting and crown moulding. The stairway railing was changed out to update the look with box newel posts. Lighting played a huge part in making this room romantic.
